Self Reflection 01

My goal for this course is to learn more about how publishing can be used for social change in relation to environmental change. I have been an advocate for environmental issues since I was 14 years old so I would love to learn more about how the publishing industry can help with that, whether it be through publishing more information about climate change or working towards becoming a less wasteful industry. I’d love to gain more skills in creating media this semester, especially since I will be graduating and entering the workforce soon and I feel like I have no idea what I want to do. I hope throughout this semester building my skills in this area will hopefully help me get a big girl job.
I have a decent amount of experience with InDesign so I would love to be able to create stuff with that for this class. I’m hoping for the opportunity to utilize that skill in creative output portion of the class. I also find that analysing and writing comes fairly easy to me being that my major is communication, so I think that the media analysis assignments will definitely my strength.
I believe that the reading reflections will be my biggest challenge this semester as I often find myself struggling to stay on task and often get distracted reading academic writing. I have a lot of theoretical texts to read across my 4 classes this semester so I think that staying on top of all of them will be difficult. I think that the best thing I can do in regard to overcoming this struggle is knowing that I want to receive a good grade at the end of the day. I have always wanted to succeed in my studies, so I think that will definitely be a large motivator. I’m not sure how you might help me overcome this barrier as it is simply a lack of motivation on my end, however knowing that I can come to you with and questions about the reading and having your support throughout the semester is great. Another tactic would be to spread out my readings throughout the week, instead of letting them pile up and then becoming overwhelmed.
